A New Novel Idea

Want some interesting news?

I’ve decided to write another book!

But I haven’t finished the first one, you say?

I know. And it seems really dumb to start another without having finished the first. However, I do have my reasons.

The rumor is that first books are usually terrible works of garbage that no one cares about. This is extremely distressing news, especially given that I planned on my first book being an epic start to a series that would gain international attention.  😆

Seriously though, I would really like to query my current WIP to literary agents, with the hopes of getting it traditionally published. I know it’s a long shot, but I want to try. If no one bites, I will self-publish it. Agents prefer to sign authors that have a following and experience. As a matter of fact, one of the top questions agents ask is if you are working on anything else. This is where the new book comes in.

I’ve had this new book idea on the back burner for a while. I just wasn’t motivated to start it yet. I was putting all my energy into revising the book I’ve already written and getting it ready to be published. Now that I’ve had a minute to think about it, I realize it’s my baby and I want to treat it with care. I want to do the best by this particular story, and I don’t think putting it out there first is the way to do that.

Another reason I want to start a new project is because I need to keep a habit of writing every day. I have not written much of anything since November when I finished the first draft of my manuscript. I have just been revising. And that is no bueno.

So all that to say, I am starting a new book. It will be a stand-alone (not part of a series) novel in the New Adult genre (you know, that age after Young Adult?). My hope is to self-publish it first, before the other I’ve already written. That’s all I want to reveal right now because I am still in the very early stages of outlining it and literally anything could change.

To be honest, I am scared to death that I will start this new project and forget all about the other one. I don’t want to abandon it! I also don’t want to write the new project as a means to an end. I want it to be just as awesome as the current WIP. So I am going to have to be intentional about working on both, and if you know me at all, you know that is pretty much impossible for me to do. When I’m all in, I’m all in. I don’t multi-task. I’m one-track-minded.

So stay tuned for information about BOTH novels I’m writing. ( 😯 ! Does that mean I’m a writer?!)

Also, I really need to name these things because WIP1 and WIP2 could be very confusing.
