Pursuing A Dream… Literally

It was like watching a movie – as vivid as dreams get. As soon as I woke, I began telling my husband about the girl with the key, huddled up in a small, wet closet, and how she got there. He encouraged me to write it down.

A year later, I am still reliving that dream in my mind. Only now, it has blossomed into a full-fledged plot. I have been hard at work plotting, researching, and writing. During this past November I participated in Nanowrimo (or National Novel Writers Month) and successfully completed the challenge of writing 50,000 words. While I am excited that I wrote down the entire story, it is no where near finished. I still have a lot of revising and editing to do.

My first plot board.

I started this site to document my journey with this novel and to start letting people into the world that I am creating around this story. I hope to share character sketches, setting sketches, and even snippets of the book. The idea is that I will post once a week, but with two abandoned blogs hanging out on the interwebs right now, who am I kidding. I’ll be lucky if I post once a month. No matter how often I post, I want to share what I’m creating and get feedback, because ultimately if I end up publishing this book, you guys will be the ones who will read it… Hopefully.

In a way, putting this site and information out there is making my novel a real goal for me. It’s accountability. So I encourage you to please sign up for my newsletter. (I may even throw in some extra goodies for those who do!) And when I do write a post, please comment words of encouragement or criticism. As long as I know there is someone out there reading, I don’t care. I mean, I know even if no one ever reads my words, I will still write them, but it’s nice to have someone to share with. 🙂

Go ahead. Join the newsletter. I’ll wait right here.

Signed up? You’re awesome.

Now I leave you with the synopsis of my book, which is currently untitled. I do have a working title, but I really don’t think I’ll keep it and I don’t want it to stick! So we will call it WIP (or Work In Progress) until I have a title.

Work In Progress

Genre:

YA Dystopian Fiction

Synopsis:

17-year old Libby lives a life of obedience in order to take care of her little brother. When she learns the results of her Life Course Evaluation, she is excited for the opportunity to work with the Global Union – a world-wide government system that runs solely on the idea of total equality; so much so that humanity has been bred into a single race.

Libby’s friend Banner, who has albinism, is worried that his results are an indictment for being different. Wanting to help, Libby risks everything to help him escape, but accidentally causes a catastrophe in the process.

Ridden with guilt and suddenly separated from everyone she knows, Libby must overcome her fears in order to be reunited with her brother and see Banner one last time.
